FAQs

What is the history of Craftmark Homes?

The Craftmark Group is comprised of Craftmark Homes, focused on luxury housing, Craftstar Homes, specializing in attached housing, and their affiliated title company.  Local companies formed by the principals of the Craftmark Group account for the creation of over 10,000 residential homes and building homesites, successfully developed and sold.

As a teenager, Kenneth G. Malm, President and Managing Principal, started learning the homebuilding business from the ground up.  Craftmark has received numerous awards for design and customer service and is consistently ranked in the top 50 privately held companies in the Washington region and the top 100 homebuilders in the nation based on revenue.  The company has been the recipient of numerous prestigious honors including multiple Builder of the Year Awards from the Building Industry Association, the Greater Washington Entrepreneur of the Year Award, numerous Finest For Family Living Awards and a national Best in American Living Award.

Craftmark continues to build upon its vast knowledge and experience by offering condominiums, townhomes and single family homes in the Washington region while focusing on the fundamental values of high quality, exceptional service and innovative design.

Since their inception, Craftmark Homes and Craftstar Homes have been committed to never build or sell a home they wouldn’t feel comfortably moving their own families into.

What makes a Craftmark Home different from other new homes?

Craftmark Homes specializes in high-end, luxury housing.  In today’s world, terms such as “high-end” and “luxury” are used so often by so many homebuilders, they have lost virtually all meaning.  However, Craftmark Homes truly does stand out from the pack.  Craftmark Homes’ standard features—including our flooring, trim work, appliances, and electrical and plumbing fixtures—exceed those of other homebuilders.  Additionally, Craftmark Homes offers a wider array of options so that you will be able to personalize your home according to your tastes without incurring the expense you would with a custom builder.  With a Craftmark Home, you will get the best of both worlds: a high quality home with the features and finishes that will fit your lifestyle at a price that only a high-volume builder can offer.

Is now a good time to buy a new home?

Now is a great time to buy a new home. Although the news media has written about the housing market being “down” in recent months, the truth of the matter is that historically prices have always gone up in the long term.  Additionally, almost every jurisdiction in the Washington Metropolitan Region is adopting stricter growth policies which will limit the supply of new homes in the years to come.  This shortage of supply will put upward pressure on prices in addition to the upward pressure resulting from the increased costs both labor and material.  Moreover, interest rates still at historical lows, and many of Craftmark Homes’ fine communities are offering attractive incentives as well.  All of this adds up to now being a great time for you to purchase a new Craftmark Home.

Does Craftmark Homes work with preferred lenders?

Yes, Craftmark Homes works with several preferred lenders, including BB&T, M&T, and Suburban Federal.  Preferred lenders can vary from community to community, so be sure to ask your Sales Manager for details.

What hours are Craftmark Homes sales centers open?

All sales centers are open daily form 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

How long will it take to build my new home?

At Craftmark Homes we strive to build your home in a timely manner, but due to factors beyond our control, including the weather, material and labor availability, and government approvals and inspections, it is impossible to predict with certainty how long takes to construct a new home.  From the time you sign your Sales Agreement, your home could be ready in as quickly as 5 or 6 months, but it can very well take longer than that too.  Please see your Sales Manager for additional information regarding delivery dates.

Will I get to see my home while it is under construction?

As a courtesy to our customers, we do offer the opportunity to view your home while under construction.  After your home has been framed and the mechanical systems have been roughed in, you will be contacted for your Pre-Drywall Orientation.  This will be your opportunity to view your home’s framing, electrical wiring, plumbing, and HVAC systems before they are covered up by the drywall.

Shortly before settlement on your home, you will have the opportunity for a Pre-Settlement Demonstration.  Your home will essentially be complete at this time.  At the Pre-Settlement Demonstration, you will walk through your home with a representative from Craftmark Homes and create a list of any items that need to be addressed.  Generally, all items on the list you create at the Pre-Settlement Demonstration will be completed prior to settlement on your home.

It is important to note that your home can be a very dangerous place while it is under construction.  Accordingly, Craftmark Homes strictly enforces a no trespassing policy for all homes under construction.  If you have a need to see your home at a time other than the Pre-Drywall Orientation or the Pre-Settlement Demonstration, please contact your Sales Manager, and we will attempt to arrange a time for you to see your home.

What are the highlights of Craftmark Homes warranty and customer service procedures?

Craftmark Homes proudly stands behind the homes we build.  During your first year in your new Craftmark Home, we warrant virtually all workmanship and materials.  The exceptions to this warranty generally involve items that susceptible to damage after settlement, such as scratches in floors and landscaping, and items that are considered homeowner maintenance.  Approximately ten months after you settle on your new Craftmark Homes, we will conduct a final inspection of your home.  The majority of service work on your home generally takes place in conjunction with this Inspection.  At this Final Inspection, you and a representative of Craftmark Homes will walk through your home and make a list items to be addressed.  Then, depending on the nature of the items on your list, it will generally take one to two weeks schedule and complete the necessary work.
