The holidays are over, and it is now time to take down all those decorations and refresh it for the coming year.
Here are five tips on ways to revitalize your home after the holidays.
1. Create a new color palette to refresh your home.
Change your home’s color palette from the holidays’ red/green/gold and blue/silver to a fresh look. The beginning of a new year can be an excellent time to add pops of color contrasted with more neutral tones for your home.
Brighten the color palette with colorful elements by strategically placing cushions, pillows and rugs around the house. You can go even further in creating a more relaxing environment by adding vibrant, eye-catching table books or coffee trays in your space.
2. Clean, organize and donate unwanted items to charities.
Take the opportunity after the holidays to go through the items no longer needed in your everyday lives. Swap out old trinkets on the shelf with new ones for a fresh decor look. Take inventory of new gifts, go through older clothes and accessories, and create a stack to donate to Goodwill or other charities.
Refreshing the home is also an opportunity to have the kids go through the items in their closets and rooms that have been forgotten or hardly touched in awhile. Decide if any items are candidates for selling in consignment shops. When organizing smaller items, pack them into individually labeled plastic containers for donation (this way parts stay together and are more likely to be accepted and sold) and be more organized for the next holiday season.
3. Introduce fresh new greenery.
You probably decorated your home with garlands and other greenery for the holidays. Now you can re-introduce a different kind of greenery. Some beautiful indoor plants to consider include the bird of paradise, money tree, baby rubber plant and hanging philodendron.
Surround your home with fresh, green plants to add pops of color with exciting textures. Green plants not only add a fresh look to your home, but as a bonus work to help clean air for a healthier environment.
4. Introduce new scents and smells.
Rejuvenating your home is an excellent opportunity to re-discover the candles, incense, and other fragrances that have been packed away for the holidays. Infuse your home with a fresh scent not associated with the holidays.
You can create your own simmer potpourri with invigorating fragrances. Simmer some natural ingredients, including lemon or mandarin peels, cranberries, cinnamon sticks, and other natural ingredients in water to give your home a natural, relaxing smell.
5. Freshen up the exterior of your home.
Now that the holidays are over, this is an excellent opportunity to take a look at the exterior of your home. Start with the basics by raking leaves and clearing fallen limbs and trash. Freshen up plant beds with new mulch and trim or cut out any dead or damaged sections.
Take the time to power wash the home’s exterior to increase new street appeal. Brighten your yard’s appearance with colorful flowers or fresh edging to add curb appeal. If you prefer simplicity, keep the exterior looking consistent with a more classic and basic color palette.
We hope these tips offer some new ideas on how to refresh your home after the holidays and give it an inspiring look for the coming year.
