Craftmark Homes is proud to build energy-efficient, environmentally friendly homes. We’ve been at the forefront of the green revolution in the home-building industry for years. Today, “going green” is a hot topic, but what exactly does it mean to us?
How Craftmark Homes Embraces Sustainability
Our commitment to going green isn’t just lip service. We craft every home with the idea of sustainability in mind. Not only has Craftmark received multiple ENERGY STAR Leadership awards, but our homes also earn very high marks on the HERS Index. Our homes score nearly twice as high on energy efficiency than the average new home, and almost three times better than the average resale home. This means that Craftmark homeowners pay less in utility bills each month and have a lower carbon footprint than their peers.
Our environmentally-friendly building practices include:
- More Efficient Insulation. Our homes are built with 2 x 6 lumber for exterior walls instead of standard 2 x 4 and use highly efficient R-21 insulation. This lowers heat transfer through these walls and saves you a bundle on heating and cooling bills.
- Non-Toxic Paint. Low-VOC paint is used throughout our homes. VOCs (volatile organic compounds) are materials that can become gases easily. Homeowners breathe in these gases and can experience respiratory or other health issues over time.
- High-Efficiency Appliances. The appliances we select for our homes are all highly energy efficient. From the washer and dryer to the 50-gallon ENERGY STAR-certified hot water tank, you don’t have to worry about wasting energy.
- Proper Ventilation Systems. Our ventilation systems are designed to provide a low exchange rate with the external environment. These systems encompass the entire home, ensuring the air you and your family breathe is fresh.
- Ethical Sourcing. All of the lumber, brick, and stone we use to construct our homes are sourced from areas within a 500-mile radius to reduce the fuel needed for transport. Additionally, our wood cabinets must meet stringent sustainability requirements.
- Elegant Plumbing. Our plumbing systems are designed to reduce water waste. Our homes feature low-flow showerheads, high-efficiency toilets, and insulated hot water pipes.
- LED Lighting. LED bulbs are the standard in 100% of our light fixtures. These high-quality bulbs give off a pleasing light and use up to 80% less energy than traditional incandescents.
In addition, all of our environmentally friendly homes are inspected by an independent third party during and after construction. This testing ensures each residence meets our guidelines in areas such as HVAC performance and air infiltration measurements.
These are only a few of the ways we build our homes to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Visit our Craftmark Green page for a more in-depth look. Single-family and townhome models are covered in greater detail. If you value the health of your family and the environment, Craftmark Homes is up to the task!
